'Mad Max: Fury Road' Movie Review

Updated: Feb 26, 2021

If there were ever a film that can be used as a teaching method for up-and-coming filmmakers and can also be watched as you're fucking your girlfriend while she eats a rack of ribs with hot sauce that registers as 1.5 million on the Scoville scale: this is that movie. It's insane. Every little thing in this movie, from the sound, to the visuals, to the music using car noises in its soundtrack, is insane. And by God do I love it.

I have never seen a movie that boldly whips out its dick while putting its middle fingers up to other filmmakers, proudly proclaiming, "YOU THINK YOU KNOW ACTION. HOLD MY BEER AS I MAKE THE BEST ACTION MOVIE YOU'VE EVER SEEN PUT TO SCREEN AND ON FILM." If you think I am being inflammatory for the sake of being inflammatory, you are wrong. This movie has shit I have never seen on screen: A mentally challenged, shirtless beefcake, drinking breastmilk, Charlize Theron with a shaved head and robot arm shooting at motorcycles in an armed gas truck, a blind guitarist playing a doubled stringed guitar that shoots flames, a bunch of old women nailing headshots like candy, the hot chick from the third transformers movie actually prove she's a good actress. These are all things that I could never imagine being possible. But they are, all thanks to director George Miller, director of intense classics like Happy Feet, Happy Feet 2, Babe: Pig in the City, and Lorenzo's Oil. He also wrote and produced Babe, so yeah.

This movie is a masterpiece of action and deserves to be recognized as such. It doesn't care what you think it should be, it just does what it know it can be, and that is being a fucking awesome movie. People complain about the story being too simple and not enough complexity behind it. To them, I simply say, "shut up". You are complaining about a movie that does everything (85% of it) practically, has strong -- not forced -- female characters, a villain that is able to hold his own, action that is clear and present, and a rewatchability factor so high, other movies just get jealous when Mad Max is only mentioned.

For a movie like this, its story is told through context, which is fine, that leaves more time for action -- GOOD ACTION. 10/10 all around, watch it, then watch it again.
